Keynote
Title: The Art of simulation in EMS Training
Speaker: Lee Ridge, EMT-PS/CCP, EMS Learning Resource Center, Iowa City, IA

Emergency Service training has evolved into a sophisticated art form.
Training does not need to be dull and boring. Yes, training can realistic and exciting. Come see how simulation training provides interactive learning in a setting that is "As Real As It Gets." Learn the benefits of simulation and how you can implement it into your classroom.

Breakout Sessions
Title: A Coronary Event
Speaker: Roger Bahe, EMT-PS, Sumner, Iowa

Come and review the functions of the human body's blood pump. Learn common cardiac conditions and identify key heart structures using a dissected pig heart. Students will find such structures as the atrium, ventricles, aorta,
vena cava, and all the various valves and review heart blood flow.

Title: A Sneak PEEP Down The Pipes
Speaker: Kolby Korbet, RN, EMT-P, Gundersen Lutheran, Lacrosse, WI Kenny Monteith, EMT-PS, CCP, Gundersen Lutheran -Lacrosse, WI

This session is a hands-on opportunity using actual anatomy from pigs to identify anatomical structures of the upper and lower airway and learn the physiology of oxygenation and ventilation. Participants will be able to insert artificial airways including combi-tubes, the King LT, and endotracheal tubes.

Title: Decoding a Cardiac Code
Speaker: Lee Ridge, EMT-PS/CCP, EMS Learning Resource Center, Iowa City, IA

The Simulation Lab on wheels is a 40- foot motor home dedicated to the education and training of medical personnel. The session will offer participants interactive training using realistic mannequins in patient care scenarios. It will help prepare you for the unexpected and allow your responding team to make appropriate, timely decisions during a mock cardiac code.

Title: Agricultural Trauma
Speaker: Dan Neenan, EMT-PS, National Education Center for Ag Safety, Peosta, IA Students will work in teams treating simulated patients that have been injured in Power Take Offs (PTO) and Auger injuries. Scenarios will include criminal thinking on the initial trauma assessment, advanced trauma management, ongoing assessments, and after call responsibilities.

Title: It is "Vitally" Important
Speaker Panel: Sandy Neyen, EMT-PS, CCP Northeast Iowa Community College, Peosta, IA

Vital signs can alert you to serious problems. Remembering to obtain vital signs at regular intervals helps determine if the patient's condition is changing. So what vitals do you need to get? What do the findings tell you? Normal or abnormal? Freshen up your skills in taking blood pressures, pulse checks, and listening for respirations and identifying abnormal lung sounds.
