Job Summary
Provide out-of-hospital care appropriate to the age of each patient
per protocols as established by the medical director. Assist with
patient care in emergency department and other hospital departments
within established guidelines/policies. This includes provision for
the proper physical, emotional and spiritual care of patient also
continuing education activities for EMS staff, outlying first
responders and nursing.
Duties/Responsibilities
Obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs based on
knowledge, growth and development, following the guidelines set in
department policies and procedures and does so appropriate to the
age of each patient. Assist nursing and support staff in patient
care as priorities allow, at the level trained, under the
supervision of a Physician or Physician designee (RN), according to
each department policies. Maintain confidentiality regarding
patients, employees and hospital information. Acts as a team leader
with PRN staff (volunteers), part time employees, and students.
Completes duties assigned by EMS Coordinator and ER nurse/nurse
supervisor.
Education/Requirements/Knowledge/Skills
High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree and/or 2 years
paramedic experience preferred Iowa state certified paramedic
required Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications required.
Minimum of 1-2 years emergency medical field experience preferred
Clean motor vehicle record with minimum violations and no OWI
convictions.

Job Description
This position provides coordination and monitors all aspects of
Iowa's Trauma Care System.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical consultation and assistance to trauma care
facilities (TCF) and EMS service programs throughout the state on
aspects of enhancing their capability to provide trauma care and
to remain in compliance with the Iowa Administrative Code and
rules for Iowa's trauma system.
- Respond to and resolve customer service level problems in
conformance with established standards.
- Review and update of verification criteria and administrative
rules.
- Review all TCF's re-verification applications according to
Iowa Administrative Code. Organize and perform on-site surveys of
resource, regional and area TCF's. Assure compliance with
standards, policies and procedures as defined by state.
- Recruitment of qualified physicians and nurses to participate
on the on-site verification teams. Provide necessary training of
verification team members with periodic updates. Write and
maintain contracts with the members of the on-site verification
survey teams.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings of the Trauma System
Advisory Council and the System Evaluation and Quality Improvement
Committee. Maintain current memberships to these committees.
- Presentations as requested and needed by TCF's, EMS service
programs, training programs and conferences. Attend and
participate with the Iowa Trauma Coordinators Association.
- Work closely with information technology staff and Systems
Vendors to maintain Trauma System database integrity.
- Explore alternative private and public funding sources.
Develop partnerships with other stakeholders.
- Position requires travel.
Perform other project/activities as assigned by the EMS Bureau
Chief.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
coursework in nursing, a human services or health-oriented field, or
education, or nutrition and three years of professional experience
in these areas.
